White sugar.

What the chain gets, so far

We don't have a shelf price for this yet: we only use published or shopper-reported prices. Once there is one, what's left for the supermarket shows here. Add the price you paid.

The farmer or grower$0.31–$0.41
Raw sugar at about A$500/t for the 2025 season (QSL, October 2025) to A$647/t now (ICE No. 11 at 20.55 USc/lb on 21 October 2026 × 22.046 lb/kg = US$453/t ÷ 0.70 A$/US$, both from ABARES) × the grower's share of the sugar from their cane under Queensland's cane price formula (cane price = 0.009 × sugar price × (CCS − 4) + a local constant, QSL; with CCS, the recoverable sugar %, at 12.59 to 13.87 in Wilmar's 2025 mid-season figures, the grower's share is 0.9 × (CCS − 4) ÷ CCS = 61% to 64%) × 1 kg = $0.31 to $0.41. Simplifications: the local constant is left out, ABARES rounds the exchange rate to 0.7, grower marketing costs aren't deducted, and refining loses a little sugar, so slightly more than 1 kg of raw sugar goes into 1 kg of white. Processing and packing$0.18–$0.25
Raw-sugar milling only: the mill keeps the rest of the sugar from the grower's cane under the same formula (in effect the first four units of CCS, QSL), which is 36% to 39% of the raw sugar at CCS 13.87 to 12.59 × A$500 to A$647/t × 1 kg = $0.18 to $0.25. This is the mill's share of raw sugar value, not a cost. Refining raw sugar into white sugar and packing it into 1 kg bags is not published and isn't included. Source
Freight and wholesalenot published
No mill, refiner or retailer publishes the per-kilo cost of moving raw sugar to the refinery and packed sugar to stores.

Worth knowing

  • Australian growers are paid on the world raw sugar price (the ICE No. 11 futures), not on what white sugar sells for in Australian shops. When the world price moves, the grower's share moves with it; growers can also lock in prices months ahead, so two growers in the same season can be paid different amounts.
  • The cane price formula gives the grower roughly two-thirds of the raw sugar made from their cane and the mill roughly one-third. Molasses and electricity made from the cane are outside that formula.
  • We couldn't find a published 2026 shelf price for 1 kg of white sugar from a survey or the press, so no shelf price is shown yet.
